Jobs

Farming, herding & servant life are the main three jobs in jesus time.

Herding- herding is a job for wandering nomads also called as shepherds. Herding is keeping herds of animals like goats and sheep are the commonly used animals for this job.

Farming- farming is were farmers come along, what they do is grow crops and harvest them to sell.

Servant life- Is a basic but cruel job because of the things that it involves like serving someone in high class and you usually don't get a break

Cities and Places

Villages that were, throughout jesus time was a place normally crowded because it was a marketplace, with shops. For jewish people this place was a central meeting place.

It was a city with shops, temples, and many people.

Cities like bethlehem and places like the red sea are places in which the people of jesus and jesus walked in. Where Jesus made his miracles and said his helpful words, where he told his stories. Where he prayed, at the temple.

Other places that jesus had traveled to was Nazereth, Galilee , jordan river, Judean desert, Jerusalem, Capernaum , cana and many more places where he made miracles, told stories or helped gods people out.

Diet

In Jesus time a woman’s daily job was to prepare the food for her family. She had to....

  • Grind grain and bake the bread
  • Milk the animals and make the cheese
  • Cook and cut the meat

A typical family, in jesus time, had always eaten two meals:

  • Breakfast

A light/small meal that was to last until supper/dinner.

  • Dinner- A large meal including, dairy, alcoholic beverages, vegetables and fruits, eggs and/or meat.

Meat

Fish was the most common meat eaten b a family in jesus time, but chicken came in second. As for red meat(beef and lamb) it was only eaten on very special occasions. As for pork and crustaceans(lobster and crab) they were ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN!!!!! and were never allowed to be eaten at that time.

Most foods were always boiled or stewed in a pot, always seasoned with solt or spices or garlic. Food was always sweetened using honey, syrups or even grapes.

When food had been served in was eaten by fingers but was still served in a bowl. they had no knives or any other cooking/eating utensils like the people of today do.

Religion

In Jesus’ time, there was still decision being made on what religion was right. Jesus started of jewish, and then started to become and make christianity. In the bible, Jesus’ spreads the word about christianity and getting baptized. Christianity became popular, and people started to follow Jesus’ word. Some people didn’t like Jesus and what he was doing, so they killed him.

There were many people related to the religion of Jesus time. There were Pharisees, Rabbis, Sadducees & levites.

Pharisees had a tight relationship with the synagog. They were middle class citizens. They were translators of the Torah, meaning they knew a lot the torah which was their bible in the time. Pharisees made the holy way of living and they do not like sinners. Pharisees would fast twice a week and they are very judgmental on how others live their life.

Rabbis also relate to the time of Jesus in religion. Rabbis have a lot of respect for a scholar. Rabbis also apply the torah (their bible) into everyday life.

Sadducees are priest like followers and follow Judaism at the time of Jesus. Levites work as Sadducees assistants. Sadducees are mostly from a wealthy levite family & leper class. They are very strict of law. Sadducees like to live in peace.

Levites work as servants to Sadducees. Levites follow strict Jewish rules and follow their Sadducees.

There was also some roman religion in Jesus’ time. They believed in many greek gods. The chief greek god was Jupiter. Christians and Jews refuse to worship greek gods.

Clothing

The people of this town wear cloths that are not seen much in now days. They wear old cloaks and sandals, they don’t have many colours only the basics

Shelter

In Jesus’ time they didn’t that much of a good shelter. There houses were normally made out of wood, limestone, mud, bricks and rocks. They also had inns & hotels to stay at. Otherwise for the poor people, they didn’t have any shelter at all.

The houses weren’t that big in size. They were fairly small in size, and they weren’t of a very good quality.

Transport

In jesus’ time, they didn’t have that much things that we do now. They didn’t have cars, or motorbikes like we do now. In jesus time, they had to take it the hard way.

In jesus’ time they mostly walked. Also they sometimes used a sort of certain animal so they could get place to place without getting tired. It also also more faster then walking. Some types of animals they used were stuff like horses, camels, donkeys. they normally used animals that could carry a person and walk large distances.

They used animals as transport, but they also used things likes carts. Carts were mostly controlled by a horse. The cart would be “dragged” by the horse. Someone would be controlling the cart so it would go the way the way people wanted it to go.
